From Left: Locky Tuttle, Pete Tuttle, Cale (Jnr) Watson and David (Captain/Snr) Watson - Pre Maiden Voyage from Gold Coast to Sydney |
This is the first post of what we hope to be a great recount of an amazing boat adventure. We are incredibly excited about what is to come and hope you'll enjoy it with us and we (smokily) sail in to the sunset.
Sir (unofficial) David Watson became the proud owner of the vessel, then known as 'Gentle Wind', on the 12th of December 2011. Then living up in the Gold Coast, the boat already had a significant history after being manufactured in Hong Kong and beginning its life in Sausalito California. The boat was slowly re-fitted over a few years by its owners in California and then made the almighty journey from Sausalito to the Gold Coast. Its two owners independently sailed the boat the whole way and made a great log of their travels which has unfortunately been lost in its proceeding ownership. The boat was very well maintained during the whole adventure and no expense was spared preparing for the journey.
'Gentle Wind' was then sold in 2005 to its next owner who kept the boat in the Gold Coast. The boat was again well maintained and was used for basic motoring around the waterways of the Gold Coast and short weekend trips.
After owning the boat for 5 years the boat was put up for sale and on its way to a new chapter. The boat was purchased by Watson Snr on the 12th of December 2011 and the crew shown above were to christen her with a maiden voyage from Gold Coast to Sydney on the 22nd of December, arriving in Sydney's pittwater at 6am Christmas day 2011.
Below are some photos of the journey.
