Boats and Adventure - The Beginning

The hype of this trip and what is to come has been overwhelming. The time, energy and brain power that has been spent getting it all off the ground/water and in to fruition has been great. And it has now begun.

Cptn Watson at first light

On a chilly June 7th morning at 5:37am we pulled away from the Royal Motor Yacht Club in Newport, Sydney and after exiting the heads of Pittwater we chucked a left. Besides. We expected some decent winds and hopefully not too much swell to push up up the coast all the way to Port Stephens. Besides being greeted by a pod of dolphins and group of 3 whales after only 30mins; what we got was a bit more on the intense side. This was of course nothing the old girl couldn't handle however and we ate it up in almost exactly 10hrs. And no one threw up which was a win.

We were greeted at our destination with a lot of rain but an surreal feeling. We were truly doing this.

I'm not sure if Port Stephens is just really incredible or it was our relief but it was one stunning afternoon. Stoke was flowing from Cptn Watson, Deckhand Kosterlitz and myself as we Motored on down to Salamander Bay where we parked up for the night. A swim and a beer ended the day in perfect style.

Day 2 and we had a date with our new home for the next 3-4 nights, Anchorage Port Stephens. After moving in, we took the bikes off Le Vessel and went for a scout around Nelsons Bay and Shoal Bay. In town there was a local country and folk festival which we and most of NSW's retirement population enjoyed to the full extent. We slapped our knees til they were hurtin and then headed off to some of the amazing beaches which will be showcased in the next post. As the weather was making a turn we headed home for a lazy arvo.

Here is also a little video of Watson Jnr doing his packing for the trip.
