Coastal Dreams

There are some moments you dream as perfection in fleeting seconds of you life that you never believe could come to fruition. One of these moments was brought to life for me on the 16th day of June 2014. In living out this fanciful wonder I’ve come to see the true value of this great adventurous pursuit.

After spending 2 days in the relaxed surfing town of Yamba NSW, it was time to hit the high seas again for our last little skip up the coast. First to Ballina. A short 7 hr stint in calm weather saw us in to port with the afternoon to play. Leaping from the boat Cptn Watson and the 2 deckhands went in search of clean waves and, following a small trek, were duly rewarded. Household chores ensued to round out the day and an easy night at anchor led in to the final day of the 9 day passage.

The swell eased, wind dropped and sun shone. This day was it. Pulling up anchor at 7am we were bound for the Gold Coast, but first there was a little stop to make. 2 hrs of cruising past coastal heaven brought us to Byron Bay. We were headed for well known surf spot here called ‘The Pass’, which on a good day can gift a looong right hand long boarding wave, this day was exceptional. Le Vessel cruised around the headland and we jumped in and paddled over. Surfing the perfectly fun 2-3ft waves with the boat anchored in the background. That fleeting dream from many Byron Bay visits was present and incredibly memorable. For 90 minutes we got to experience bliss and with that we were back on our way, with a real lasting happiness and stoke for what had just happened.

Home at Southport

Gold Coast is our home now for the next 2.5 weeks and its great. We have the surf, people to meet, and old friends to see. Our baby received some special treatment for a few days with the crew giving her a thorough clean and new bottom paint in preparation for the miles to come. We have now settled in to our berth at Southport Yacht Club and are taking time to explore what will be the most urban stop on our travels.

Today we are Sydney bound for 3 days to touch base with everyone back home and pick up Sir Deckhand Chaney. So much has happened yet it's only the beginning.

The Photo Galley has finally been updated!!
